IPTC: Caption NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope provides a new view of the Milky Way in infrared light. This mosaic image reveals hidden features and millions of new-found stars, providing details that help fill in the big structural picture of our galaxy and that give scientists a peek at discrete structures such a star-forming regions, protostars and newly forming planetary systems. The mosaic was compiled in 2008 by a team led by University of Wisconsin-Madison astronomer Ed Churchwell.
